England

Sat Aug 14, 2004, 4:50 AM
I am going to travel to England for a week - to be more exact it will be Raleigh. Going to visit my exchange student David there and looking forward to much fun. :)

I am going to post some photos afterwards.

Enjoy the UK, I love the UK. I love the EU. The EU is more culturally advanced then the u$a. You may not see it or realize it, I know the EU is not perfect, but trust me, the states are fucked!
Although I have to say my favorite EU nation is Sweden :) although the techno clubs in Berlin kick much ass :)
Least favorite EU nation, of the big ones, would have to be a tough choice... Spain, Italy or Greece (and I am half greek). Those three have some of the most incompetant leadership since Austria elected that mega right wing jerk... What ever happened to him? and how did the last Swiss election go? I know the right in Switzerland were trying to gain power by bringing up the fact that too many immigrants are in Switzerland.

Okay Greece is not one of the big 3 in the EU (Deustchland, France and UK) But the three I mentioned do have more power and people then a Switzerland, Netherlands or Denmark, not to mention some of the other tiny nations that are joining. Greece also has always had government problems since the end of WW2, Spain is still living in the shadow of Franco (but coming along nicely), Italy **shakes head** I think Mussolini had the longest reign and most stable Italian government since the ancient days of Rome... Atleast 1000 years and that is damn sad! Now they got the super mega mass media asshole. Who literally controls all the television broadcasts in Italy.

Yay! The Netherlands have a far higher population than Greece (16 million inhabitants compared to 10 million greeks). ;) But I agree on the greek political stability and italia... Italia is something of its own, no one knows how it works and I guess no one wants to.

Even Italians really do not care about their own government, they are a unique people. I remember something I read about why Italians do not suffer from depression as much as people in North America or Scandanavian countries, someon said, "How can you be stay depressed when you live in a land of great artwork, pasta and the Med all around you." Well maybe because the Med is dying, the pasta is probably polluted and the arts are not supported anymore. But that is just me.

Try to have fun. I dunno much about that area, but if it's England, you should never be more than half an hour away from a decent pub at any rate. If your staying in a fairly large settlement, avoid the town squares after closing time. Three days ago some drunk asked me and my friends to hold his dog for tewn minutes while he took care of 'something important'. The git spent fifteen minutes asking us the same question over and aover again, then wondered off into a pub. We got him out though and gave him back his dog. Exercise caution my good man. Exercise caution.
